Brief Introduction
The process combines the shape making capability of plastic injection molding with the material flexibility of powder metallurgy. MIM is ideal for tight tolerance parts, and complex shaped metal parts with high strength requirements. Besides, the MIM process can significantly shorten the development cycles and lower cost.
Metal injection molding (MIM) is a manufacturing process. The metal powder is mixed together with the binder in a hot state to produce ""feedstock"" mix. Then, the injection molding stage gives rise to a ""green part."" In the debinding stage, the green part is immersed in a solvent bath so that a portion of the binders are removed. During sintering, the remaining binders inside of the green body could be evaporated and eliminated in the thermal processes.
